We spent the weekend on Whidbey Island as a belated birthday present for David. Our original plans for the weekend fell through, but it turned out to be an excellent weekend!
David and I laughed that if it were just the two of us, we would have needed a bag of clothes and a bag for electronics/books. When we added the dog we added another bag, his box, his bed, and his food. When we added the baby we added two more bags, a diaper bag, a pack n play, a booster seat, a car seat… the list goes on. It looked we were vacationing for a week!
Saturday morning we spent a few hours at Double Bluff Beach. It is an off leash dog beach and we let Ransom off leash in an unfenced area for the very first time. He did such a great job! We could tell he was having a blast. Needless to say Lyra slept through the whole beach experience.
We spent the afternoon driving the island including a short trip to Deception Pass. The island is stunning. I think I told David at least ten times it was one of the most beautiful places on earth. Friday night as we were driving in the mountains were purple. Actually purple. Like, purple-mountains-majesty purple. I’ve never seen purple mountains in real life!
Sunday we drove back up the island and around to Mt Vernon to see the tulips. It was rainy most of the morning. We had lunch at a local brewery and killed just enough time for the rain to blow over. The tulips were beautiful (albeit almost all gone) and we snapped some quick photos before we headed home.
